Press release Tre Torri

The 2011 edition of the TRE TORRI tournament will not be taking place!

Corridonia, June 3, 2011 – After having successfully concluded the 26th edition in 2010, this year we agreed with the organising staff that a break was needed.

It was an extremely difficult decision but, after many meetings and discussions, we realised that a break was, ultimately, the best thing to do.

If we had run the tournament this year, many world-class athletes from around the world would probably have been absent, as they concentrate on training and qualifying for the Olympic Games in 2012, thus affecting the top quality we strive for at the TRE TORRI tournament.

We consider it only correct, therefore, to let the teams prepare themselves in the best possible way for the upcoming Olympic qualifications, considering that, first, our tournament does not count towards the qualification process and secondly the current economic climate will inevitably play a major part in setting the priorities of the Sports Directors of those national teams who have always participated in the TRE TORRI tournament.

In the meantime, we will prepare a renewed and even better TRE TORRI, both in terms of organisation and content, in 2013, after the London Olympics.

We sincerely hope that you will appreciate our honesty and the correctness of the decision we’ve taken, knowing that we could not have done more, even in these circumstances, to show the respect we owe to Judo and all those who practise it with passion.

We have reached the 27th edition of the TRE TORRI, an important landmark achieved, let’s continue on our journey which began in far-off 1983.

The TRE TORRI competition updates itself each year with the intent of improving, of giving our followers an event to be lived with enthusiasm, one which is always more engaging in formula, always full of innovation and especially with the conviction of a growing number of friends.

In this 27th edition, we would once again like to emphasise “fair play”, our discipline already is predisposed to this connotation, in its very DNA, nevertheless, we would like the young Judoka of the world to understand how important it is to express themselves with style.

We hope to be able to admire, throughout the 2011 edition, a Judo beautiful in its contents, one of a high technical and aesthetic value.

The message we send to the young people on this occasion is this: “this marvellous discipline contains great values which are hard to find in others, we maintain that Judo has no equals and it has been conceived to bring us all together under one idea, that of improving ourselves every day of our existence”.

Judo is a truly vast project, which proposes a total method that fits every stage of our lives, and therefore we, above and beyond the sporting aspect and that of personal success, would like your support in all its forms, from active participation to whatever way you choose to adopt.

We like to remember that sharing is an important moment for the growth of the Judo movement all over the world.

Jigoro Kano (the founder of Judo, 1860 – 1938), taught us that if we understand the profound meaning of two of Judo’s fundamental principles:

  1. Sei ryoku Zen’yo
  2. Jita kyo ei

we may achieve any goal we set for ourselves in our lives.

We, therefore, turn our attention to our fans, athletes, managers, technicians, backers.

Looking forward to greeting you in June 2011!
